If you're not a big fan of the Windows Start Menu, there are many new ways of launching applications. Recently we featured Launchy and RunIt, which are two tools that will enable you to type in a file name and launch that application. Of course, you could simply create a quick shortcut to an icon, from your desktop, but then you might want to keep your desktop clutter-free.
ObjectDock 1.9 is a tool that will enable you to create a Mac OS X style dock bar to your desktop screen. You could even hide your Task Bar so that the dock is the primary way to start and iconify your open applications. Another similar tool is RocketDock.
