Windows XP users: quickly locate files with Windows Desktop Search

Screengrab When we look back, there are tools and functions that should have been integrated in to Windows a few revisions prior to the current edition. One of these functions is the facility to search and locate files on your PC, without delay. Well, without serious delay. Mac OS X has had the Spotlight facility for a couple of years and now Vista contains similar functionality. Third party developers have introduced their own versions of instant desktop tools, such as Copernic Desktop Search.

Windows Desktop Search 3.01 is a free instant-search tool from Microsoft, designed specifically for Windows XP SP2 users. It will catalogue your entire drive and then enable you to find files on your system by entering a few keywords. It won't invade your privacy and won't catalogue stuff such as your web history and similar personal information.
