It only seemed like a short while ago when applications such as WinZip used to be free of charge and the primary choice for creating and managing archived files. The ZIP archive was the only real archive format used on the Windows platform and has since become the industry standard. WinZip is now a commercial application and there are plenty of free archive managers that will enable you to open or extract files from ZIP and other archives.
jZip is one of these free archive management tools and will support ZIP, RAR, 7-Zip and other formats, which means that the major archive-types are covered. If you want to distribute files across the Internet, jZip will enable you to both archive and password-protect your archives, so you could place them securely on your homepage and then email the password to people who you want to have accesses to the archive contents. Download jZip.
