Test yet another photo management tool with Photology

Grab140 Only a few short years ago, anyone producing digital photography software, magazines, websites or other literature, couldn't go wrong. People couldn't get enough of the latest information about what camera they should use and how they could get the most from their camera. The market has flattened somewhat, yet there are still software developers producing new photo management and sharing tools, although few compete with iPhoto on the Mac and are never as feature-packed as Adobe Lightroom or Aperture.

Photology 1.0.0.102 is yet another photo management tool that ships with a rather unique user-interface. It attempts to make management, editing and sharing, easy. It's clearly aimed at the consumer and would be superb if it was free software. However, it's commercial and only ships as a 14-day trial. Our advice? Try it and see how it stacks up against your current photo management software.

I can see this app being useful for the terminally lazy with relative few pics but I'd rather put in a few minutes tagging photos using Photoshop Elements when taking them off the memory card than trying to remember details about the pictures in order to search using photology. right now I can get every pic taken at my kids 5th birthday parties by just searching on kids/birthday/5th. After taking a look at the Photology site, I can't see how this app can do better. It may put you in the ballpark by searching on the month their birthday is in but if you had the party in a different month and you don't want to have to bother trying to remember that then you're lost.

This would be a nice app if free. I'm waiting for Google to buy the company and fold it into Picasa.

Disclaimer: I'm one of the guys behind Photology.

It's not that people are "terminally lazy," but rather that they're busy or distracted or just not super-diligent. And honestly, when you've got a full memory card with 1000 pictures, no one is going to take the time to manually tag and organize all of them.

Photology takes care of all that work for you by automatically analyzing your photos. It's very easy to find you photos once Photology has analyzed them. There's a crazy amount of research behind that analysis, which is why Photology isn't free. But we feel $39 is a fair price for the functionality.

I invite you to go to http://www.getphotology.com and download the software and give it a try before you judge it to be inferior. It really is a very effective and easy way to find your photos.
