junky-vlc.gifWhilst Microsoft (Windows Media Player), Real (RealPlayer) and Apple (QuickTime) battle to dominate the commercial audio/video player market, there are a number of free alternatives that can do a better job, play back multiple audio and video formats, whilst remaining cost and advert free.

VLC Media Player 0.8.6h is one of the best multi-platform audio/video playback tools that will enable you to show and view just about any media, irrespective of the operating system. If you have some encoded on your Mac, you can use VLC to playback the video on both the Mac and on your Windows laptop.
