Try a free, competent alternative to Microsoft Word

One of the first things many people learn how to do on a computer is how to type up a document of some description, often using Microsoft Word. Once you get used to Word, it becomes more difficult to move away from it and find an alternative. One reason you may want to use an alternative is the cost, Word can be an extremely expensive purchase. Another reason may be, like many other people, you simply don't utilise enough features to justify using it any longer.

AbiWord 2.6.4 is a very competent word processor, compatible with Microsoft Word documents. Although it may not seem as feature rich as Word, It still offers a wealth of functions, more than enough for the average user and best of all, it's completely free.
