Back in the mid-90s, we used to use FTP software to download files from commercial servers. Indeed, most of this was done via a command line, logging to the remote site, selecting the files you want to download and they'd appear in a folder on your PC. With the web, we don't need to download files in such a way, but we still need to make sure that the files that make up our homepage, are updated. For this reason, it's still a good idea to have a powerful FTP client in your application portfolio.
WS_FTP Home 12 has been around for ages and this new version builds on the strengths of the versitile FTP tool. The new version ships with a customisable user-interface, support for Windows 2008 server, improved SSL support and much more. There's also a Professional version which includes additional functionality including secure transfer, a scheduler so you can make best use of your broadband, if you have large files you need uploading and much more.
