Turn your iPhone or iPod Touch in to a drive using DiskAid

junky-diskaid.gifGo out and buy the latest 32GB iPhone or iPod Touch and you'll soon realise it's tricky to fill the entire drive. Most business use their iPhone as their smartphone, storing their 'to do' list, their notes and their email. Why not go one stage further and use the device to store your most important files, documents and other information? Like the iPod Classic, you can turn your iPhone or iPod Touch in to drive which can use to store your data.

DiskAid 3.0
is a commercial tool that will turn your iPhone in to a disk. Simply connect it to your computer and you'll be able to drag your files on to the device. By using the iPhone 'FileAid' app, you can even access some of the files you've placed on your iPhone, from your computer, using the device. Open images, PDFs, text files and more.

Use your iPod Touch as a two-way remote with Signal

junky_signal.gifA few years ago I used to use an old Mac Mini as a basic FTP server on a fast broadband connection. In fairness, it was a flawless setup, never went offline (unless the broadband line went down), remained quiet in operation and is a recommended setup. However, as the need for a faster connection drove us away from providing content from within the office, the Mac Mini was made redundant. Although it's a Power PC system, we realised recently it could be used to stream audio around the home. Connect an Airport Express to every audio device where you want to play your tunes and you're away. Well, nearly.

Signal 1.1.3 enables you to control your streaming audio through your iPod Touch, iPhone or similar device. Simply install Signal on to your Mac Mini (or another computer, Mac or PC, with iTunes installed) and you can see your music and control output from your iPod Touch. Wherever you're in the house, you can move to another track, control volume, speaker distribution and more.

Grab the latest version of Apple iTunes 8, with music recommendations

junky-itunes.gifAlong with the new iPods announced last night, there's a brand new version of Apple iTunes available to download. The latest Apple iTunes 8 ships with a number of new features, including 'genius' music recommendations which will offer you various track options based on the music you like to listen. Of course, the recommendations come from the iTunes Music Store. Other new features include the ability to download and watch HD-based TV programmes.

However, early feedback suggests that the new version of Apple iTunes also ships with improved support for Windows Vista, including a quicker statup procedure. You'll need to download iTunes 8 in order to use the latest iPods.

Say goodbye to high resolution iTunes artwork

Clutter It looks like Apple has pulled the plug on the many websites that plunder its extensive archive of high resolution album artwork. The popular Josh's iTunes Album Art Grabber, and many others, ran into difficulty when attempting to retrieve the gorgeously detail 600px by 600px covers, offering only the 170px by 170px versions. The larger versions are still available to those who purchase music from the iTunes store but it looks like we’ll all have to turn to the lower quality Amzon.com for our audio library needs.

Expodition: make your iPod your travelguide

Blackipodvideo_1 Expodition is a new service that aims to use PSS (Pod Snap Shot) to give your iPod the power to guide you through locations of your choice. Like the little brother of RSS, PSS is a personal travel guide for your iPod, giving you details on anything from the closest transport links, nearby cash machines and banks, to the best places to eat and shop. The service begins by collating as much information about your travel preferences; you then enter the post code of your destination and Expodition will send you an email containing the PSS to be downloaded onto your iPod. Pre-historical sat nav it may well be, but this could certainly come in handy for iPod and travel lovers alike.
